Southampton Solent Welcome Week
Black and white
photo challenge, Tuesday 22nd September.
This was a great opportunity
for me to explore Southampton, and discover parts of it that I enjoyed visually,
with new friends. It was a nice way to open my mind to new skills as I have not
done much photography before.
Illamasqua
workshop, Wednesday 23rd September
I thoroughly enjoyed watching
professional make-up artists at work, and was surprised to hear them admit how
nervous they can get, and how many mistakes they make, even at their level. It
was very reassuring, and I loved their finished looks.
Charles Fox
talk, Thursday 24th September
This talk gave me an insight
into the application of more everyday make-up, as opposed to the fashion
make-up the Illamasqua team demonstrated. Again, I really liked the finished
outcome.
I learnt
about some products and techniques that were new to me, and also about the
variety of pathways to a career in the hair and make-up industry. From this, I
have gained a more positive insight and feel reassured that hair and make-up is
a career I want to pursue. I feel like I am already learning new things about
make-up that will stick with me throught my studies and work.
I am
pleased with how this week went and have enjoyed it. I liked meeting new people
and feel excited to start the actual course. I found information easy to
understand, and the ‘Head in a bag’ and ‘black and white photo’ challenges were
a fun way to experiment and see others’ outcomes.
